The Birch Moth, due to human industrial activity, had to undergo a metamorphosis, changing its original color from light to dark, in order to defend its existence.

Sound Art

Birch Trees give up their sight to save the Biston Betularia, a moth forced to undergo metamorphosis due to human pollution activities.

Brutal metamorphosis

Not far from a mining district, Birch Trees observed with their many awake eyes in a hitherto unprecedented haze, unknown dark vapors emanating from deep excavations in the ground where men and women seemed to work frantically.
Night by night and day by day, glowing incandescently with the fires of large machinery, the air became increasingly caliginous.
The bark of the trees turned ashy, their eyes growing wearier, and some of the dearest guests to the Birches, the Moths, also began to change their appearance. Like a metamorphosis attacked by a terrible spell, on their wings at first whitish in color with light gray discolorations, very dark veins tending to black began to branch out, quite abnormal for that species.
Together with clear Lichens the Moths delicately covered the barks, blended until they became almost one body, different lives became similar in their appearance, sewed together becoming a blanket for the Birches.
