Ritratto di strada (Street Portrait)
1993, mixed media with bitumen on canvas, 25x18x8cm. The works with which the artist recomposes a microcosm rich in memories, a sort of reconnaissance and re- elaboration of places and portraits, in an abstract form, in relation to his artistic and poetic experience, belong to the 1990s. In Ritratto di strada (Street Portrait), in particular, the bitumen prevails over the pictorial aspect, which characterizes this series. With La casa occupata (The Occupied House), the work is part of a cycle presented at the Tokyo Gallery Tom Museum and in two personal exhibitions of the nineties, in Milan and Lecce, accompanied by a critical text by Pierre Restany. The theme of the “road”, as an individual and collective life path, is proposed again over the years in other sculptures, such as in Orme (2012/2021), a work in progress by Gomme nere, with engraved signs and reliefs, which create a different design with each installation.
